First let me say I am not a gemologist; I have designed numerous pieces of jewelry for myself and my
family. I enjoyed wearing a unique and original piece of jewelry like both my Grandmothers. All but one
of the pieces I designed was made by incredible and honest independent jewelers. The other piece was
made by LeVian.
Being a two-person family making a nice income, I was able to purchase a few medium-priced pieces
from LeVian during a LeVian Trunk Show at a major department store. Also, LeVian had a ‘Trade-up
Policy’ with this store. I could ‘trade-up’ my small to medium pieces of jewelry for the price I paid for
additional pieces of later… sounds great right?
Plus, with the reputation of LeVian, how could I go wrong? Well, this is where the education and
knowledge begin… When I went to ‘trade-up’ I discovered that policy was only valid during LeVian’s
Trunk Shows.
Independent and Small Jewelry Stores have similar trade-up policies. But they offer trade-ups on most
diamond pieces and not limited to just name brands or a special trunk show.
Please make sure to ask about a store’s ‘Trade-up Policy’ before finalizing your purchase. Also, a lesson I learned after the fact, as well. The best knowledge I obtained growing my jewelry collection came from the independent and small jewelers plus research. The worst knowledge was from LeVian as they appeared less informative. This is based on my experience and is my opinion.
At LeVian Trunk Shows, I was like a kid in a candy store… which ones do I choose without my husband
killing me or my checking account blowing up! The Sales Representative conveyed how exceptional and
rare the stone which would only increase in value. If you hear that phase, RUN…QUICKLY… then do your
own home work. Follow to your own instinct.
